Long War: Yesterday it looked like Gaddafi was losing the Libyan Civil War (LCW). Today it looks as though he is winning it. The US has designated the Libyan Rage Rebels as good guys and Gaddafi as the bad guy in the Long War and the LCW is now the number one LW hotspot, not Afghanistan. The US might impose a No-Fly Zone over Libya with the promise to shoot down Gaddafi's air assets, primarily attack helicopters. Gaddafi might be able to stage a ground invasion of Rebel-held east Libya without his helicopters. It seems unlikely that Obama would use American ground forces against Gaddifi if the bad guy were to make headway in an eastern invasion. In other words, the US Navy and Marines might sit idly by in the Med, with jets hovering impotently over Libya, as Gaddafi regains control over his country. So in one scenario the bad guy could win. If that happens America will wish it put ground troops in Libya right away and didn't sit there stupidly with only a NFZ. If Gaddafi regains control this hotspot will turn into a hot war.
That is only one possible outcome. It is also possible that Gaddafi will lose. The first scenario will cause events to spiral out of control and the other will have the Rage rebellion settling down. There is no way for us to know right now which way it will turn.
